History of Subaru

Subaru which means 'Uni?n' in Japanese, has the honour to be the first car maker that employed integral traction in Grand touring cars. He was also the first front-wheel drive that put a vehicle in Japan. So Subaru, a discreet brand but always innovative and faithful.

Beginning of Subaru

The company was founded in 1953 in Japan and today is a subsidiary of the company Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI). General Motors had 20% of the shares between 1999 and 2005, until it sold 8.7% of capital to Toyota, which has expanded its participation up to 16.5%. Its logo is comprised of six stars, five of the same size and a larger, representing the constellation of the Pleiades.

The peculiarities of Subaru, in addition to the mentioned integral traction system, include the use of horizontally opposed cylinder boxer engine, giving a lower center of gravity than cars mounted engines with cylinders in V or online.

Subsequent years of Subaru

Subaru has participated with success in the World Rally Championship with his team Subaru World Rally Team, formed in 1989 and after important wins, he retired in 2008, at the same time of the also Japanese Suzuki.
