Lancia is a recognized Italian auto brand was founded on November 27, 1906 in Turin by Vincenzo Lancia and Claudio Fogolin, both runners of Fiat vehicles, under the name of Lancia & C. Since 1900, Vicenzo Lancia was well known within the automotive environment by its impressive sports participations as a pilot of Fiat; on the other hand, Claudio Fogolin was a more discreet pilot and believe that recognized his friend's last name was the name of the company. After registered the company, Lancia and Fogolin continued working on Fiat to achieve the necessary capital and start with the production.
In 1907, the Lancia company & C rented its first workshop (an old shed), which was occupied by ITALA, another car company. Shortly after Lancia entrusted to his friend, Count Carlo Biscaretti di Ruffia, the task of designing the company logo. The logo should be recognizable at a glance and according to the form of the name and the flag, it was so the count design 5 models and Vincenzo chose to represent the philosophy of the brand.
The first Lancia models
The first models were distinguished, elegant and never excessive. Lancia has contributed to the progress of automobile for its innovative and sometimes revolutionary technical solutions that were a step ahead of the needs of motorists. Approximately in 1907, launches the first model initially called as type 51 which would later be renowned as one of the characters of the Greek alphabet: Alpha, which I presented at the Auto Salon in Turin in 1908.
The Lancia brand is distinguished by the use of the letters of the Greek alphabet to name their models. In 1909 it launches the Lancia Beta, which was basically a modernized version of the previous one with increased power and also the distance between the axis of the chassis for the convenience of rear passengers, but in 1910 they are replaced by the Lancia Gamma. The Epsilon who shared several features of its predecessor the Lancia Delta but with a marked change in the distance from their axles were manufactured between 1911 and 1912.
To 1913 the Lancia Epsilon were replaced by the Lancia Theta. This model reached a great success which was presented at the London Motor Show and was produced until 1918 but not in massive amounts due taxes and market reasons. In 1922 Lancia Lambda is officially presented at the Auto Salon in Paris and London, this model was one of the most revolutionary and emblematic of the brand due to the use of modern techniques of construction for the time.
Evolution of the Lancia brand with over the years
The tradition of the brand was focused on technological developments without forgetting the look of their models. In 1931 at the Paris Auto Salon presented the substitutes of the Lambda, the Lancia Artena and Lancia Astura, which looked very similar but with certain differences in their type of motor and axis distance. In 1933 in the automobile Salon of Milan the Augusta presents itself with innovative features as its engine in V.
Despite the great success of the Augusta, Vincenzo Lancia was thinking of a more revolutionary car, was so in 1937 is the new Aprilia with a streamlined design, but soon after started its production of Vincenzo Lancia dies on February 15, 1937. These latest models introduced the inventiveness and ingenuity of the Italian style to the world.
At the end of the 1940s, the son of Vincenzo Lancia, Gianni Lancia is responsible for the company's projects. During the second world war, they began to manufacture tanks. After this event, they resumed their activities and in 1950 Lancia Aurelia is presented at the Auto Salon in Turin. In 1953 a more economical model appears the Appia and would a few years later (1957) the Flaminia was released in versions sedan, coupe and convertible.
In 1958, the Pasenti Group acquires the Lancia brand after the low success of the models Aurelia and Appia left the unstable company economically. In 1963 they released the model Lancia Fulvia which was the first Lancia to win a Championship rally in times of Vincenzo Lancia, their cars never participated in international competitions, but from this model would achieve great success in racing.
In 1969, the Lancia brand was acquired by Fiat Group, one of the largest automobile companies in Italy and Europe. After the acquisition by Fiat, mark began to emerge but the originality that excelled in each Lancia model disappears.
