BMW and Mercedes-Benz will reduce the number of platforms

Two of the world's major automotive manufacturers plan to reduce the number of platforms for the respective ranges. According to Automotive News Europe, BMW and Mercedes-Benz site soon adopt such a policy in order to lower their costs.

In the case of BMW, currently five platforms are used. That number is expected to drop to just two, one for cars with front wheel drive and one for models with rear wheel drive, covering also the MINI vehicles. The line "i", hybrid and electric will be a separate case, using architecture itself.
