Seat Leon Cupra 280 sets record at Nurburgring

SEAT used the Geneva show to confirm that the Leon Cupra 280 DSG model is the new record holder for cars with front wheel drive on the Nurburgring circuit.

The model chosen for the challenge was configured with an optional performance package, covering different alloy wheels 19-inch Brembo brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2. Thanks to the 2.0 TSI four-cylinder and 280 horsepower and 35.7 lb-ft of torque engine, the Spanish hatchback managed to complete the lap in 7 minutes and 58.4 seconds.

In fact, it is the first front wheel drive car to set a time under eight minutes since the previous record holder, the Renault Megane RS Trophy, held the crown until now with a time of 8min07.97s.

The Seat Leon Cupra DSG 280 was piloted by Jordi, a former official SEAT driver seasons between 2003 and 2010 Gene in European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) and World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). Moreover, it was also a valuable member of the team responsible for developing the model.

The Leon Cupra 280 model is the fastest and most powerful production company, since it can do 0-100 km / h) in 5.7 seconds, before reaching 250 km / h. He will probably continue to be the fastest car with front wheel drive in Nurburgring, at least until the new Honda Civic Type R arrives in 2015.
