Without fanfare, Renault Fluence ZE stops production

Renault stopped production of the Fluence ZE , which was manufactured in Bursa, Turkey. Introduced in 2010, the electric version of Renault Fluence turned out to be a big failure for the French automaker, since apparently only 3,500 units of the model were sold.

Besides the extremely low sales, Renault has decided to discontinue the Fluence ZE because the Israeli partner who supplied the batteries, Project Better Place, declared bankruptcy in May 2013 passed.

Virtually identical to conventional Fluence, the ZE (zero emission) came equipped with an engine that delivered 23 lb-ft of torque and 95 horsepower. Using a standard wall outlet, it took six to eight hours to charge the battery that would last about 160 km.
