Citroën C4 Cactus: motoring review

Citroen C4 Cactus was designed to stand out from the traffic. You may like it and you may not but it can hardly be ignored. Brown inserts on the sides made of special poly urethane catch everyone’s attention, while light doors and hood look stylish without any damage to the safety as the car got four of five stars on safety tests. Pricing depends on the engine type and option pack. Customers may pick one of the three 1.2L PureTech petrol engines: 74hp, 81hp and 109hp, or one of the two 1.6L diesel models: 91hp and 99hp. Regardless of the engine type, there are also three trim packages: Touch (low line), Feel (mid line) and Flair (high line). If you want to buy a petrol Citroen C4 Cactus with no frills you will need to spend $18,500 and $20,450 for the diesel option, when the prices of the fully loaded car will be $20,100 and $22,000 respectively.

One may also choose between two transmission types: manual and ETG automated manual gearbox, which appears to be a little incomplete as it cannot switch gears right away. Together with not very high-power engines this fact contributes to the opinion that this car’s target customer group is mostly women and people who like to travel steadily. Front wheels have disc brakes and back wheels have drum ones but this does not worsen the process of slowing down.

The interior is stylish and practical. Some distinctive features include door handles in the form of straps and dashboard with the flat top. For the comfort of a driver and his or her passengers the manufacturer provided a lot of space for different accessories. For instance, there are big door pockets, a smartphone shelf, a glass-holder and a 8,2L top-box glove compartment. Low line package does not include colored inserts in the steering wheel, dashboard and seats. Moreover, plastic door panels are cheap in all three trim levels. Back windows cannot be lowered down and only can be opened a bit with the help of window locks, so ventilation of the back seats is not that good. In addition, tall passengers may feel inconvenience as the roof is not very high, yet, there is plenty of space for the legs.

Multimedia and special systems of the Citroen C4 Cactus include a 7-inch touchscreen with a lot of information, for example, fuel consumption rate and fuel distance. Furthermore, you can adjust climate control settings on the touch screen and use navigation system, which is not perfect as it lags if you try to zoom or scroll the map. However, Touch package does not include navigation, climate control, rear camera and rear park system.
