Opel Tigra: Is It What You Need

The name Opel Tigra has been applied to 2 cars designed and produced by the German carmaker, both based on diverse generations of Cors Supermini. The first generation was produced in Spain, while the second was made in France.

The initial Tigra was a mini 2+2 coupe, manufactured during 1994 – 2000, while the latter convertible roadster model was launched in the year 2004. In the United Kingdom, Tigra was marketed as Vauxhall Tigra, while it was sold as Holden Tigra in Australia and Chevrolet Tigra in Mexico, Argentina and Brazil.

After its non-existence for around 4 years, the automaker revived the badge Tigra in Oct. 2004 for an all-new sports car that was based on 3rd gen Corsa. TigraTwinTop was a 2-seat coupe convertible integrated with a detachable hardtop similar to Peugeot 206 CC with respect to style. Heuliez, the French coachbuilder produced the Tigra.

Similar to its precursor, TigraTwinTop was offered with 2 petrol engines: the base variant came equipped with a 1.4L 90 PS engine belonging to Family 0 and the range-topper came with a 1.8L Ecotec 125 PS from CorsaGSi. An economic variant, which made use of the 1.3 multijet diesel engine of Fiat, was launched in 2005.

The 2nd gen was sold in Australia as XC-series Holden Tigra, just with the 1.8L engine.
