History of Kia

It is the car manufacturer more ancient of Korea, the first producer in this country automotive market and fifth in the world. Founded in 1944, its name is a combination of "ki" meaning "the towers" and the letter "a" which comes from "Asia". KIA thus means "which stems from Asia". The company, whose headquarters is in Yangjae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, Korea South, belongs to the Hyundaigroup. Its slogan is "The power of surprise".

Beginning of Kia

The company was founded in 1944, began manufacturing bicycles and steel tubes. Also around this time they produced engines and commercial vehicles under the name of "Asia". It changed its brand in 1952 to Kyungsung (Precision) Industry, which dabbled in motorcycles, trucks and cars. Initially he worked under license from other brands, as it is the case of Fiat in 1970 with the manufacture of the Fiat 124. He also did with the French brand Peugeot in the production of the Peugeot 604 and the manufacturer Mazda. KIA makes its first model: the Titan van in 1971. Three years later it produces another vehicle 100% original, the breeze.

In the 1990s he presented for the first time compact as the Sephia and Sportage SUV sedan models. The economic crisis in these years resulted in the sale of Kia to Hyundai group.

Present of Kia

He entered the U.S. market in 1994 through a network of representatives that placed the brand in the country. Kia held its 5 million in exports in March 2005. In 2006 it opened its first plant in this country in West Point, Georgia, that program 300 thousand vehicles per year and employs 5,000 people.
