BMW can advertise factory in Mexico: report

In September 2013, there were rumors of negotiations between BMW and Mexico for installation of a factory in the country . Now, according to the Wall Street Journal, the German automaker "is in advanced talks with the Mexican authorities."

Yet according to the American publication, the BMW is investing about $ 1.5 billion and highlights the growing state of the country as a major manufacturing center.

"We explored different countries as potential locations for future local production," said Mathias Schmidt, a spokesman for BMW. "However, there was still no decision on the production site in Mexico." Even without a defined location, the Wall Street Journal suggested that the new factory of the German company can be operational in 2016.

The original plan of the BMW 3 Series is to produce and Series 1 (GT, most likely, since the facility would focus on producing models with front wheel drive) models initially.

The measure will benefit greatly from the presence of BMW in the area, allowing an improvement in market exploration of North and Central, since, so far, the German manufacturer is present only in South Carolina (USA) with a Spartanburg plant, which produces several models of the X-line and all the Z line.
