Peugeot 308 is elected "Car of the Year" in 2014 in Europe
The organization of the award "European Car of the Year" revealed on Monday (3) that the winner of the 2014 edition is the Peugeot 308. The hatch of the French automaker earned 307 points in the poll, ahead of the electric BMW i3 (223) and Tesla Model S (216). Following, were Citro?n C4 Picasso (182), Mazda3 (180), Skoda Octavia (172) and Mercedes-Benz S Class (170).
To compete for the prize, the models must appear in at least five European markets in the previous year to the vote (2013 in this case) and register a minimum of 5,000 units sold annually in each of them. For this edition, 30 cars were eligible. A jury of 58 journalists from across the continent chose the winners.
Yet available in the Brazilian market, the new generation 308 was revealed to the world in May 2013, but can only be seen up close by the public during the Frankfurt Motor Show. The model uses the platform and EMP2 is 140 kg lighter than the previous generation.
