Volkswagen is not working on the successor of Eos, says magazine
According to the media in Germany, Volkwswagen not produce a successor to the Eos, which is not showing good results in the market, with sales low and only 8000 units produced in 2013.
According to Der Spiegel, beyond the meager sales, the development of an entirely new model would be too expensive for the German manufacturer. Moreover, the popularity of the convertible segment has dwindled in recent years, so it would not be feasible to launch a new Eos.
"Some niches are so small that is not worth it," said Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn, decreasing the chances of the emergence of a new hardtop convertible VW.
The Eos is on sale since 2006 and received a facelift in late 2010. It shares its platform with the fifth generation Golf, but has different body panels. The basic model costs 29,450 euros in Germany to version 1.4 TSI and can cost up to 41,025 euros for the 2.0 TSI Exclusive with 6-speed DSG.
