Alfa Romeo 147: Options For Tuning
Launched at the Turin Motor Show in 2000, Alfa Romeo 147 was produced to replace 145/146 hatchbacks. Manufactured by Alfa Romeo, the Italian automaker, during the 2000-2010 on the basis of the running gear of the saloon of larger 156. Titled as the European Car of the 2001 Year, beating Toyota Prius and Ford Mondeo.
Engine & Other Specifications
It was sold with three petrol engines of 3.2L, 2.0L and 1.6L capacity variants and a diesel engine of 1.9L capacity. A paddle operated and sequential ‘Selespeed’ transmission system provided with it, since its launch. The trim levels available with this car include the Lusso and the Turismo. With the availability of electronic traction control and dual-zone control of climate, this model came out to be the first one of the Alfa Romeo lineup to have these features.
Upgrades to the 147 Model
At the end of the year 2004, the 147 model was provided a facelift along with new headlights, interior, rear lights, interior and the front grille. These upgrades were provided for all the versions of this model except the GTA version. Along with this, the suspension of the model was tweaked and a diesel engine providing more power was added.
With a limited slip differential at the front Torsen, the new 1.9-JTD-Q2 version of 147 was launched. Another model with 170PS JTD diesel engine and Q2 differential, Ducati Corse, a limited edition, was launched at the Bologna Motor Show in 2007.
The Replacement
After being in production for a period of 10 years, the 147 model was replaced with the newer model Giulietta in the late of the May, 2010. During this replacement, this model was known to be the oldest car sold in the European market in the small family car segment, after a production of a total of 58000 units.
