BMW M1: A Powerhouse Release
BMW M1 – E26 was manufactured in the year 1978 and continued to be in existence till 1981. In late 70s, Lamborghini had made an agreement with BMW to produce more racing cars for homologation. Later on, conflicts arose and that prompted BMW to manufacture racing cars on its own.
The Only BMW with Mid-Engine
BMW M1 was sold to public in between 1978 and 1981. It was the only car manufactured with mid engine. It was employed with a 3.5L 6-cylinder twin-cam M88/1 petrol engine. This particular engine was used in South African BMW 745i version. BMW had produced similar kinds of vehicles in the 80s like E24 BMW M6, E28 BMW M5, and E24 BMW M635CSi.
The engine had got 6 separate throttle bodies, 4-valves / cylinder and was capable of producing 277 PS in street version, offering a top speed of 162 miles per hour. The BMW turbo-charged versions were capable of generating 850 horses, which were simply out of the world!
