Ford Fusion: The Main Features
Production and make of the Ford Fusion
The Ford Fusion is manufactured at the Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly where the Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ were also made. It uses the CD 3 platform. It was code named the CD338 for the first generation of cars which rolled out during 2006-2012. This mid sized car won the Motor Trend Car of the Year award in 2010. In the same year its hybrid version won the North American Car of the Year award. The production began from 1st August, 2005.
In the Latin American markets, except Argentina, U.S. and Canada the Fusion was replaced by the Mondeo. In Argentina the current European Mondeo is available. In U.S. and Canada it was superseded by the mid-size Taurus. The Fusion is in between the Ford Focus and Ford Taurus. In Middle East it sells along with Mondeo, where there is no V6 engine. The V6 engine is made available to the U.S., Canada and Latin America market. In South Korea only the 2.5 L engines are available as 2012 model year.
Dynamics of Fusion
The Fusion became the first car by Ford with the new Three-bar grille. This has 2 matching bars below the bumper or fascia forming a five star design. This design was first seen on a retro V10 powered rear wheel drive concept car Ford 427. The Ford 427 was premiered at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2003.
The second generation has a gasoline, EcoBoost engine options, and a next generation hybrid model. It has aplug-in hybrid version called the Ford Fusion Energi. Ford Fusion consequently became the first production sedan with four options.
From October 2012, sales of the gasoline powered and hybrid versions have started in the U.S. The Fusion known as the Ford Mondeo is expected to start sales in Europe and Asia markets by 2013. From February 2013, the Fusin Energi units have started delivering in the U.S. At the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2012, the entire range and line up of the Ford Fusion was given the Green Car of the Year award.
