Mazda Miata: A Remarkable Sports Car
MX5 is a lightweight 2-seater roadster that comes with a front engine, and rear wheel drive layout. The vehicle was manufactured by Mazda in Japan at Hiroshima Plant and introduced at Chicago Auto Show in 1989.It was released as Roadster in Japan by Mazda North America.
MX5 was conceived as a small roadster with minimal mechanical and light weight complexity, which is limited by legal and safety requirements.
MX5 was technologically sound, but philosophically descending from other small Italian and British roadsters released in the 1960s such as MG MGB, Triumph Spitfire, Alfa Romeo Spider, Fiat 124 Sport Spider, and Lotus Elan.
The 2nd generation MX-5 was launched in the year 1998 and the present model has been in production right from 2005. MX5 continued as one of the best-selling 2-seat convertible sports cars. By February 2011, the company managed to sell almost 900,000 units of MX-5s across the globe.
Since the launch of 3rd generation MX5, Mazda has used the MX5 name to market the car all around the world, except in North American markets.
In North America, it was marketed as the MX-5 Miata, and gained widespread popularity.
