Mitsubishi Montero or Mitsubishi Pajero has been a part of Mitsibishi Motors from four decades, now the car is in its fourth generation. The name Montero means mountain hunter and the name is mostly used in Spain and in US apart from Brazil. Mitsubishi Shogun is another alternative name of this model and this name is generally used in United Kingdon markets.
Manufactures Have Taken Advantage of Name Fame
Considering the success of this model, which is recognized as Pajero, Shogun and Montero, the manufacturers want to take advantage of their names and hence, they have named their other models Mitsubishi Pajero/ Shogun Sport/ Montero, Pinin mini SUVs /Pajero iO, the Pajero Junior, Pajero Mini kei car. These previously mentioned cars have no genetic or mechanical relation to Mitsubishi Montero. Montero sees a few cars as their primary competitors such as the Nissan Patrol Y61, the Land Rover Discovery and Toyota Land LWB/Cruiser Prado SWB.

Instead of selling in markets, the car has also taken participate in Dakar Rally of Paris, it made its debut in January 1983 and just after two years it achieved first place and since then it has maintained a reputable position in Dakar Rally. According to statistics, in last ten races it has won seven times and until today it has won total 15 times out of 32 races. With the help of these off road winning numbers it has gained a huge raise in its selling worldwide.
Today, Montero has live up to expectation; perhaps if they increase their markets in some part of the world they can possibly raise their success statistics.
