The Nissan Frontier is a hard body pickup truck sold by different names in different countries. For Asian markets is being sold by the name of Nissan Navara that belonged to D22 and D40 generations and for North, South, Central America and Philippines it is being sold as Nissan Frontier.

Production history and Statistics

- The production line started in 1998 and initially it was marketed as D21 Nissan hard body truck. The D22 model is not sold in Japan since 2002 as the primary market has been relocated to North America.

- Currently it is being manufactured at Tennessee Nissan factory in Smyrna.

Nissan was known for its pioneering technology behind this amazing pickup truck and it held it status since 1986.

- Initial production was started with the introduction of D21 and was termed as small pickup and after over 10 years that is in 1998 the second generation D21 was manufactured. The D21 became so popular that its production went till 2005.

- Post 2005 it was replaced with D40 that was longer, taller and bigger than the previous models and is being now termed as medium sized pickup truck.



The name Navara was give to it as per inspiration from Navarre region of northern Spain and the Nissan factory in Barcelona witnessed the production of its European version. For European markets it is being marketed and sold as Nissan NP300.
