Opel Antara: Places Where You Can Buy
The German marque Opel rolled out its compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) version, the Opel Antara in 2006. The Antara is designed after the Chevrolet Captiva on the Theta platform. It shares similar power trains and underpinnings as the Chevrolet Captiva. The exteriors are quite different from the other SUVs. The Opel Antara is a smaller car with just five seats rather than seven seats that are normally present in SUVs.
The Opel Antara is sold under different names in different regions; in the United States and Canada, it is called Saturn Vue, in the United Kingdom it is called Vauxhall and in the Australia, it is called the Holden Captiva 5. It is known as Chevrolet Captiva Sport in the Americas; in the Middle East as GMC Terrain; and in South Korea as Winstorm Maxx.
The 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show saw the unveiling of the Opel Antara Gran Turismo Crossover (GTC) concept car that is a three door. This was the first ever preview of the Antara. The Antara GTC is modeled after the Chevrolet T2X Concept that is a five seater.
A two-door concept of the same model called the Saturn PreVue was show cased later on at the New York International Auto Show in January 2006. The model of the Antara that went under production is four-door, longer and is a five-seater car. The production Antara is strikingly similar to the Chevrolet S3X and comes very close to the Chevrolet Captiva in terms of design.
