Suzuki Swift: Go On For A Swift Ride
Suzuki Swift introduced in the market
Suzuki has been manufacturing the Swift in Japan since 2000 as a subcompact car. Initially the name Swift was given to the Suzuki Cultus in different markets. The Cultus was marketed as ‘Swift’ worldwide across three generations and four body configurations of the car. These were the three-door hatchback, four-door sedan, five-door hatchback and a two-door convertible. All of them used the Suzuki G engine family.
For the Japanese domestic market the Swift was marketed as the Cultus. In other countries it was marketed as Suzuki Forsa, Suzuki Jazz, Chevrolet Swift, Chevrolet Sprint, Sprint Metro, Geo Metro, Chevrolet Metro, Pontiac Firefly, Maruti 1000, Holden Barina and Subaru Justy. Till 2007, the second generation of the Cultus were produced in India. The production is on till date in Pakistan.
Swift undergoes cosmetic changes
In 2013, the new Swift was launched in the market. It had a revised front bumper, L-shaped LED daytime running lights on fog lamps housings, 16 inch wheels, LED-type high level brake lamp, and a new seat fabric design.
For the Japanese market, there were other changes as well. It had a newly developed dual jet engine. It had Suzuki’s ene-charge system and eco-cool, which were taken from the Wagon R. The dual jet engine used the dual injection system in the 1.2 L petrol engine. This increased the car’s vaporization, hence increasing the combustion efficiency. It also channelizes the fuel to 2 intake ports instead of the usual 1. All these features ensured a fuel economy which went up to 26.4 km/L, based on a calculation on JC08 mode.
