Toyota Corolla: Features You Need To Know
Toyota becomes the best selling cars worldwide
Toyota was introduced in 1966 and was manufactured in the line of subcompact and compact cars. By 1974, it was heralded as the best selling car worldwide. BY 1997, it surpassed the Volkswagen Beetle as the best selling nameplate in the world.
A recorded 40 million Corolla’s have been sold worldwide across 11 generations till July 2013.
The name Corolla - Steeped in tradition
Toyota has traditionally used names derived from the Toyota Crown for sedans. The name ‘Corolla’ has also been derived from there taking into account the tradition it upholds. In Japan it is an exclusive car found across the Toyota Corolla store locations. It also had a twin in Japan called the Toyota Sprinter till the year 2000.
The specifics of the car
Toyota Corolla is a front wheel drive car. The earlier models had mostly rear wheel drive which they did away with later. The Nissan Sunny introduced in the same year as Corolla and the Honda Civic are its nearest competitors. The Toyota chassis and engine codes describe the Toyota chassis designation code as “E”.
7.4 millions Toyota’s were called back on October 10, 2012 including the Vitz and Yaris. These included 2.47 million cars from the US, 1.4 million from China and 1.39 million from Europe. The reason was to check a reported problem in malfunctioning power windows.
