Toyota Fortuner: Where To Find Legit Sellers
Fortuner or SW4, an SUV from Toyota, is based on the platform of the Hilux pickup truck from Toyota. It gained the best seller spot among the SUV/PPV vehicles. Initiated from Thailand, its production expanded to Indonesia and other countries and is available in 4-wheel and rear wheel drive models with 3 seating rows. This vehicle is a component of the IMV project of Toyota along with the Kijang Innova and the Toyota Hilux in Thailand. This low cost SUV arrived in Thailand in 2004 as a better option with an integrated language of design than its predecessor, 4Runner that retained a backyard conversion look always. With a large contribution of the Thai operations towards the production, it gained a huge success following the Hilux. The production work for this vehicle is carried in many countries like India, Indonesia and Argentina, where it grabbed a mixed response from the market.
The former workers of the (TTC-AU) Toyota Technical Centre, Gillard and Herald, revealed in the Sydney Morning that the operations for the manufacture of the Fortuner have initiated back in 2006. Designed by Japanese and Thai engineers, Toyota Australia designed the IMV vehicles’ facelift version including that of the Fortuner. They are also responsible for the production of the Fortuner’s next generation vehicles.
Toyota has manufactured different engine variants according for different countries, which include 2 petrol and 2 diesel engine variants. The petrol engines include a VVT (Variable Valve Timing) technology for a 4.0L 1GR-FE V6 engine and a 2.7L 2TR-FE engine. The diesel engine variants include the common rail technology with variable geometry turbochargers for a 3.0L 1KD-FTV engine and a 2.5L 2KD-FTV engine.
For rear wheel gasoline and diesel based drives, G & G Luxury levels of trims are provided, while the trim levels for the 4*4 gasoline and diesel based drives is the V trim. The common rail diesel engine with turbo intercooling technology come with a hood covered by a functional scoop.
The Toyota Thailand replaced the 4*4 model with a 2-wheel drive version for the gasoline based engine in 2007.
Country Specific Variants
There are different versions of the original Toyota Fortuner in various countries including Japan, North America, China, Europe and Australia in the market segment of the SUV vehicles based on a medium pickup. Various variants offered are the Land Cruiser Prado for Australian, Chinese and European markets, the Hilux Surf for the Japanese market and the 4Runner for the North American market. Fortuner is supplied in a few of the Central American market alongside Land Cruiser Prado and 4Runner.
